I have a little notebook I keep in my camera bag. It’s just a cheap little spiral with a green cover. Green because my favorite color is green. It’s there so I can take notes on the birds, etc. that I’ve seen and taken pictures of when my wife and I go on one of our hikes.
I’ve had it in that bag for years.
And it’s empty…blank.
Why? Because it was cheap, and I forget that it’s in there. I don’t value it much, so I guess I subconsciously don’t mind not having used it.
I’m 99% certain that, if I’d gotten a fancier notebook or journal to record my sightings, I would have it nearly filled with notes by now.
I've noticed that, at least for me, things I spend a little more money on tend to get treated with more care.
I wish I’d had a nice journal – maybe even one with my name on the front and some nice artwork – from the time I started bird watching years ago.
Maybe you do too.
