It was warm enough just the other day that I could keep the back door open from early morning on. The usual visitors were there - Cardinal, Grackle, House Finch, Goldfinch, Robin, House Sparrow.
But I heard this one bird over and over and over again. One that I didn’t recognize.
Fortunately, I now know how to use the Merlin app to ID such critters.
It was a Northern House Wren. I’d seen one of these a few years ago in northwestern Wisconsin, but I was behind glass back then and couldn’t hear him.
This day, though there was no glass, the bird wouldn’t leave his perch in the tree, so I didn’t get to see him. (The image above is not my bird.) He trilled virtually all day with rarely a stop.
It was very cool. I just wish he would have come down for a bite to eat or for a drink or a bath.
Maybe next time.
